Big Game for Iowa Natives
A sellout (the 19th in a row at historic Kinnick Stadium) crowd of 70,585 fans will descend upon Iowa City and the University of Iowa campus for Saturday's college football game between the nationally ranked Iowa Hawkeyes and the Iowa State Cyclones.
Whats on the line?
Everything!! But just to name a few: a season, bragging rights, and the CY-HAWK Trophy.
CY-HAWK TROPHY HISTORY:
When Iowa resumed its football series with Iowa State in 1977, the Des Moines Athletic Club donated a trophy to be awarded to the winner of the annual in-state battle.
The Hawkeyes hold a 19-10 advantage since 1977 when the Cy-Hawk Trophy was first awarded. The Cy-Hawk Trophy currently resides in Ames as a result of Iowa State's 23-3 victory in Ames last season.
IOWA vs. IOWA STATE SERIES HISTORY:
Saturday's game against the Cyclones marks the 54th time the two in-state rivals have met. Iowa holds a 35-18 advantage in the series that began with a 16-8 ISU win in 1894. The Hawkeyes have won 17 of the last 23 meetings, but the Cyclones have won six of the last eight in the series.
The teams did not meet between 1935 and 1976 and Iowa holds a 19-10 advantage since the series resumed in 1977. Iowa holds a 20-12 advantage in games played in Iowa City. Iowa defeated the Cyclones by a 17-10 margin in the last meeting in Kinnick Stadium in 2004.
The Hawkeyes won 15 straight games in the series (1983-1997).
IN CLOSING:
Come Saturday you better slap that Iowa Native Sticker on your car, throw on your school colored Iowa Native gear and head to Iowa City to cheer on your team!!!

Finally
Search engines are the pulse of Internet surfing in today's age and getting noticed by the top search engines is no easy task. Many companies pay big bucks to find their way to the top of the ranks on the most popular search engines such as: Google, Yahoo, Ask Jeeves, etc. But, somehow, Iowa Native has found its way to the top of list; it's the #1 result when searching for "Iowa Native Stickers". Although this is quite an achievement, the site isn't being recognized by Yahoo when using other terms such as "Iowa Native" or "Iowa Native Website". However, a posting on the IA Native Blog is the #5 result if you search for "IA Native" on Yahoo.
Unfortunately, Google the #1 search engine in the world, has yet to recognize and give Iowa Native any props. Only by searching for "ianative" does it kick back the website link and even then it's at the bottom of the page.
Hopefully some day Google will realize Iowa Native is for real!!!!
Thank you all for your support. Keep checking back as the website is continually updated and enhanced.

Tough Week
Not an easy week for Iowa, Iowa State, or UNI basketball. After Iowa came off an exciting Big 10 tournament run, they get stopped short for a run at the national championship. A last second effort by Northwestern State dashed all hopes for Iowa and its seniors. http://hawkeyesports.collegesports.com/sports/m-baskbl/recaps/031706aaa.html
Then out of thin air and a mix of controversy Iowa State fires Wayne Morgan and his entire staff. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2372651
After all that, hope still remained as UNI took the floor against Georgetown, giving the Hoyas all they could handle, but in an all out effort fell short 54-49.

Then we turn to women's basketball where the Iowa women were getting ready to start their run to Boston for a national championship as well, but ran into a road block as they matched up with BYU in the first round of play.

However, the Iowa State Women are holding strong in the WNIT with an overtime victory against UW-Green Bay 79-71. http://cyclones.collegesports.com/sports/w-baskbl/recaps/031606aaa.html Advancing to second round play were they will host Marquette on Tueday March 20th in Ames. http://cyclones.collegesports.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/031806aaa.html
